As I embarked on my journey in Mechanical Engineering at the highly respected University of New South Wales, I delved into the expansive field of Mechanical Engineering. This intensive Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program, pursued from February 2018 to November 2019, offered a comprehensive understanding of mechanical engineering principles. This curriculum, ranging from solid and fluid dynamics to design concepts, was both rigorous and enriching. Moreover, the opportunity to participate in team-oriented projects such as the Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Challenge allowed me to explore the practical application of these principles, fostering a global perspective on engineering's role in societal challenges.
Earning a distinction in Engineering Design was a testament to my robust grasp and effective application of engineering principles. Meanwhile, I gained invaluable hands-on experience through designing and assembling a bionic hand that operated using ECG signals. These achievements, together, confirmed my capabilities in problem-solving, innovative design, and cross-disciplinary engineering applications.
Bionic Hand Project: One of my most noteworthy projects was the design and creation of a bionic hand controlled by ECG signals. This endeavor required meticulous planning, robust knowledge of biomechanics and mechanical engineering, and proficient project management skills. By successfully integrating these areas, I contributed to a solution that leveraged technology to improve quality of life, underscoring the transformative power of engineering.
Another significant project during my Bachelor's program was participating in the EWB Challenge. This competition required the application of engineering principles to develop sustainable solutions for real-world problems. Collaborating with a team, I delved into researching, ideating, and implementing innovative solutions that were both feasible and impactful. This project experience further honed my teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills while reinforcing the importance of sustainable engineering practices.
Reflecting on my time at UNSW, I take immense pride in the strides I made academically and technically during my Bachelor's program. The challenging coursework, coupled with practical projects like the bionic hand and the EWB Challenge, provided a holistic educational experience that further propelled my passion for engineering. These experiences significantly deepened my understanding of Mechanical Engineering while also instilling in me a broader perspective on how engineering can contribute to societal good. As I move forward, I am confident that the groundwork laid during this journey will serve as a robust foundation for my future studies and career in biomedical engineering.
